Changing Ideas was established to promote the use of photography in humanitarian campaigns and as a catalyst for change.

This objective is pursed through our:

• Support for photographers in their individual projects
• Education and consultancy work with NGO’s
• Education and research programmes

Project Support
We apply business thinking and processes to humanitarian projects in order to increase the likelihood of achieving tangible change. We assess each project on an individual basis and provide appropriate support.

For further information please see the applications page.

Education
We have found that many NGO's do not use photography as effectively as they could and many photographers lack the expertise to enable them to do so. To address this we run an education and research programme that investigates the various ways in which images can make a difference and can be used by NGO’s to help them achieve their humanitarian objectives.

Charities
In addition to receiving applications for specific projects, we also offer a consultation service whereby we work to identify how visual imagery can be used to help your charity achieve its objectives. This may include training for your staff, exploiting your image archive or producing new work suitable for advocacy, awareness or fundraising.

Residency
We are currently refurbishing an old Baptist church in the picturesque Scottish fishing village of Pittenweem. Here we will host a residency programme for photographers. The residency can be used to finish a project or research and develop a new body of work. Watch this space for further information.

The Internet
We are working on several initiatives that harness the power of the inernet to bring people together and effect change. Our most recent initiative is the button. This simple and effective device provides a series of links that allows people to ‘do something’ after viewing powerful reportage on the internet. It can be easily integrated into any website, blog or social networking site.
