‘Working with NGO’s’ Workshop in Kolkata, India

Visual imagery is an important part of any charity communications strategy. Our workshop is designed to provide small and medium charities based in Kolkata the opportunity to expand their communications and have access to a photographer to document their activities.

Through previous workshops we have supported: Calcutta Rescue, Right Track, Future HopeCalcutta Samaritans, OFFER, Genesis, Loretto Seldah and Society for Indian Children Welfare.

Workshop – March 2nd – 9th March 2011.

Following on from the success of our 2009 workshop we will once again be holding our workshop which brings photographers and NGO’s together.

Lead by the award winning photographer Jonathan Torgovnik the workshop gives participants the chance to work closely with an NGO’s dealing with a powerful humanitarian issue. Support will be provided by Kate Edwards, picture editor of The Guardian Weekend Magazine.

The workshop will introduce participants to the rudiments of working with NGO’s and practical strategies for working on the ground and advise charities on how photography can be used in their communications.

Workshop March 2009

This, inaugural, workshop was a great success. The workshop saw 12 photographers working to create photographic material that the charities could then use in their fundraising and awareness-raising campaigns. Both the photographers and the charities gained immensely from these collaborations. Many of the photographers have subsequently gone on to work with other charities. The workshop was lead by Jonathan Torgovnik with support from Alice Wynne-Wilson, former picture editor of Action Aid India and Cheryl Newmann, picture editor of The Daily Telegraph Magazine.

We have given various lectures about the work of Changing Ideas and how to make a difference with photography to a number of the UK’s leading photography colleges. We have spoken at the London College of CommunicationCentral Saint Martins School of Art and Design andUniversity of Wales, Newport. We have also taken part in a Charity Comms seminar.
